Selected as a designer for Remake X Parsons School for Design’s field research trip to Cambodia, “Meet the Maker”. This trip allowed myself and two other designers to explore the garment making industry at the front lines and meet the makers of the clothing industry. This trip was made possible thanks to Parsons School for Design, Remake, and Levi Strauss Foundation.

Photos are from multiple contributors on the trip.

oceanic x parsons school for design

Selected as a designer to create up-cycled wearable dance costumes for Oceanic Global’s ocean awareness event, Oceanic x Ibiza. The costumes were created with Anh Le and Jacob Olmedo in New York and made entirely of ocean-bound plastics.

About the event:

On the 20th of July 2017, Oceanic hosted its inaugural event as part of its city-by-city immersive experience series, set in the heart of Ibiza, Spain.

A conscious event for our ocean, Oceanic x Ibiza was a thoroughly cultural, artistic and inspirational experience. It united top musicians, celebrities, conservationists, institutions, NGOs and brands, transcended the barriers of language and human diversity to create a universal voice for our ocean.

Oceanic x Ibiza was designed to transport participants through the depths of our ocean. Immersive content on-site juxtaposed the natural beauty of our ocean with the destructive impact of plastic and seafood consumption, as well as provided the Oceanic community with engaging solution for restoring ocean health.

DESIGN PROCESS: plastic collection, treatment and construction development, sketching, draping, and more.

Intel x parsons

intel x parsons school for design

Selected as a designer for Intel x Parsons School for Design’s collaborative course where students across Parsons School of Design's Fashion Design BFA and Design + Technology MFA programs worked together to integrate Intel’s latest technology into garments. It was mentored by Aneta Genova and Katherine Moriwaki and made possible with funding and support from Intel.

About the project:

Te Ipsum is a collection of four jackets: The Intellectual, The Protector, The Creator, and The Visionary, created to answer the question - how can we make data beautiful, wearable, meaningful, and personal? Our concept was to create garments that were “tailored” to your personality by integrating Intel’s Curie module and e-ink screens into these garments to collect, interpret, and display user-specific data. Our digital “fitting room” (personality quiz) assigns you to a jacket and matches you to your best data metric system – tailoring not only your jacket, but also your data to fit your personal needs, interests, and ambitions.

DESIGN PROCESS: sketching, concept development, testing Curie module, testing e-ink screens, fabric development, tech integration, etc.

Tide x Parsons

Tide x parsons school for Design

Selected as a designer for Parsons School For Design x Tide collaborative course, Design For Care. This course brought awareness to the aspect of sustainability through designing for care and the full lifecycle of a garment. The class worked in small groups to create an entire collection of garments with laundering, storing, repairing, altering, and wearing in mind. The use life of a garment was approached as an opportunity for rich design exploration; the course demonstrates how various parameters and constraints can be catalysts for creativity and design thinking. Fashion and its materiality were examined in our temporal context, and garments were investigated for their potential to transform over time. Designing for high-satisfaction, low impact fashion use was presented in the context of larger systems within which fashion and textiles exist.

About my look:

100% cotton canvas pants and 100% cotton sherpa jacket (styled with a handknit top by Katrine Nielsen). This look is fully machine washable and becomes more comfortable over time and shows beautiful signs of wear through color change.

PROCESS: concepting, sketching, fabric sourcing and treatment development, wear and care testing, etc.
